Playing with Desert Noises here in an hour and so at Helter Shelter. I’ll be playing a lot of new material, so if you want to hear some old songs hit me up and I’ll see what I can do. Closing with a new one I wrote today that has a group participation vocal!

“We have thoughts we don’t completely understand, we were breathing heavy. We were breathing heavy.”

Come out and sing along!

Love,

12 Albums You Should Buy Before Christmas By Our Favorite Related BandsPart Four: Hotfox- “You, Me and the Monster”
These fire-eyed youths will make you fizzle. I remember when I first met Oliver Hopkins. His tall, lanky figure with mussed ginger hair to his shoulders walked into the Bears of Blue River sessions for a guest spot on “Dames”. We had some drinks and sang some songs, but none hit me in the forehead as much as “Esplanade”. Gavin, Maggie, Oliver and I were stuffed in a booth with Tyler helming the board. The lyrics “the asylum is waging war upon the streets/ and all we’ve ever feared is leaking out our ears/ the nightmares before us” still worm their way into my head every one and a while. So dark and tantalizing. Since that time our bands have remained close friends, even doing a brief mini-Indiana tour “Thuderfist” with another brother band The Calumet Reel. All these folks (Oliver, Duncan, Michael, Marcus, and Colin) are great folks to just hang around with. Earlier this year, they released their album through Roaring Colonel Records, and they’ve been opening for many national acts when they come through Indiana. Their album is placed for $8, and you should definitely pick this up. Don’t sleep on Hotfox. Hotfox might get aggravated and breathe fire on your bones.

12 Albums You Should Buy Before Christmas By Our Favorite Related BandsPart Three: Everything, Now!- “Do It On The Moon” Crafty and folks have created another fine album for the world to hear. If you enjoy music at all you should listen to this band’s entire catalog. “Over and Away” is exemplary (look for the Sam Cooke tag)! Recorded in Drew DeBoy’s basement by Tyler Watkins, the production sounds like something much larger than a quintet of Munciefied musicians howling at the moon and bringing every musical bit of alchemy out of their collective bag. It sounds like a call to attention. It sounds like a call for love. It sounds like a prophecy fulfilling itself, but not quite yet. They have much more to show us. Pick up their new album for $10 digitally, and if you are a vinyl fiend, $15 for a limited run yellow see-through record! Do It On The Moon tonight!!!!

Though life throws turmoil into the works, every once and a while, it seems that Chad and the boys have stolen a little bit of sunlight and infused it into their songs! Reminds me a bit of Born Ruffians, but not nearly as spastic. This five song EP is up for $5! You should buy it. Each song is from the heart and the mind of an awesome Hoosier poet.

12 Albums You Should Buy Before Christmas By Our Favorite Related BandsPart One: Bears of Blue River- “Dames”
It’s no secret we love this band. Their harmonies are heartwarming, Gavin’s songwriting is top-notch on this record, and I do some jokes in between a few of the songs. “JERSEY!”  From the start it’s a work of much love and joy and maybe a bit of fornication! Maggie snarls “I’ll lead you to your grave this mistake will make you cave. “And you believe it. Why? Because Maggie’s a badass who don’t play no fool. This record is a lot like our record in that it took forever to release. However, with perseverance, solid will, and wit Gavin and crew have released an album that makes everyone who worked on it proud. Musically it’s more expansive that the “Killer Bee Scare”, and lyrically more feisty than prostitutes fighting over a John. It’s set as a pay what you want. So you should pay what you want for it. Anything helps our mere minstrel causes, and I know Gavin eats primarily beer and glycerin. It’s a great diet, but he should really lay off that glycerin. Enjoy! Part two later today.Love,DAN
