From Adam Gross of Amo Joy:
“Hi all! As many of you know, my good friend and long time musical compatriot Paul Cobb passed away last October. When he left us, he left behind 13 cassette tapes and a loop pedal which, combined, contained over 50 short musical ideas, demos and complete songs. Over the past few months, Pauls other musical companions and I have been getting together to bring this music to the public. So without further ado I would like to share with you the 52 track anthology that is, as Paul affectionately called it, Hammer Screwdriver. Listen and download for free here:
http://hammerscrewdriver.bandcamp.com/
We are also working on bringing you a physical version of these songs which will appear as a compilation on vinyl. For that, we are going to finish some of his unfinished ideas and fill out parts that were meant to be added but never were. There will be more information about that, as well as a crowd funding page on IndieGoGo available soon! Please feel free to share this music with whoever may be interested!”
Trigger Finger
This is one of the very first Bonesetters’ songs. It appears as a B-side on our ep,Big Red Main which we recorded eeeeooonnnssss ago for our forth coming record, Savages, which you can donate to here. Trigger Finger Oh, I got wheat and I got rye We stormed the shore of Normandy Oh, and I’ve been a danger for a long time Much love to you and yours,
When I wrote it Bonesetters were supposed to be a one time gig at the Rick’s Theater in Greenfield, Indiana. So I hunkered down in my room, and wrote 8 songs for this performance which I thought would be the last time we’d ever play these songs. At the time, I was accompanied by Brent Sigler, Josh Ravega, and Tony Skagg (who kinda slipped out the door when we were loading in and was never really heard from again).
This song came about after thinking of a children’s rhyme or two, where there’s almost always a cautionary tale to be mentioned. I enjoy they playful bounciness of it, and kind of miss this song from our set. Every once and a bit I’ll play it solo, but that’s a rare occasion. You can go to our Bandcamp and hear it there along with some acoustic versions of tunes from the forthcoming record! Enjoy!
I get on the bus in time
I wouldn’t go Into the park
After dark, after dark
‘Cause if you see a man out there
With rotten teeth and a gunshot stare
Don’t say I didn’t warn about the park
About the park after dark
And I’ve been a stranger for a long time
Time keeps fighting onward
Onward, onward Christian soldiers
One day I’ll find
I packed all my shit and I went
With bayonets and candied beans
The giants there they were so tall
The tallest giants I ever had saw
They traded us off for golden eggs
But they were rotten went to waste
And they breath they breathed it was so hot
It killed a lot, it killed a lot
And time keeps fighting against you
But you’ve got a brand new trigger finger
One day I’ll find
A shiny hole right between my eyes
Dan
